Since 1897, the Boston Marathon has stood as the oldest and most prestigious annual marathon in the United States, drawing over 500,000 spectators each year. It is a bucket-list race for countless runners, known for its challenging course and the electric energy of the crowd. For Roger, a dedicated runner and proud father, the 2025 Boston Marathon is more than just a personal achievement—it’s a mission.
Roger is running for Nevus Outreach, an organization that provides vital support, information, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN). His journey to Hopkinton, where the marathon begins, is fueled by love for his daughter, Raya, and a desire to raise awareness and funds for this meaningful cause.
A Father’s Journey: From Uncertainty to Advocacy

Raya was born with a giant CMN on her right lower leg, a diagnosis that initially brought a wave of uncertainty for Roger. Like many parents faced with this rare condition, he was filled with questions: What kind of care would Raya need? Would she be okay? How can I best support her?
Navigating the unknown was daunting, but with time, knowledge, and support, Roger and his family found their way. Raya’s dermatologist and Nevus Outreach became invaluable resources, guiding them through her care and helping them focus not only on protecting her skin but also on nurturing her confidence and ability to thrive as she grows older.
Running for a Cause Close to the Heart
As an avid runner, Roger has always dreamed of tackling the iconic Boston Marathon. But this year, his motivation goes beyond personal accomplishment.
“If I was going to run this race,” Roger shares, “I was going to run it for Raya. This is the perfect platform to raise awareness and funds for Nevus Outreach. Representing this organization in such a prestigious race means the world to me.”
With a goal of raising $7,500 for Nevus Outreach, Roger hopes that his participation will not only fund important resources for families but also inspire others within and outside the Nevus community to rally behind the cause.
The Challenges and Triumphs of Training
Training for a marathon is never easy, and balancing the demands of family, work, and training presents a unique set of challenges. “Finding the time and energy to train appropriately can be tough,” Roger admits. “But I know that every mile I run and every ounce of effort I put in is worth it.”
The 26.2-mile course will undoubtedly test him physically and mentally, but Roger’s focus remains on the greater goal: creating awareness and support for Nevus Outreach and families like his.
A Message of Hope and Inspiration
Roger’s journey is not just about fundraising—it’s about connection, awareness, and hope. “I hope that my participation in the Boston Marathon will inspire others,” he says. “Hard work is always worth it when you’re doing it for a worthy cause, especially one that is close to your heart.”
Using the platform of the Boston Marathon, Roger plans to share his story and the mission of Nevus Outreach with a wider audience through social media and community events. His goal is to create more awareness, connect with other families affected by nevi, and ultimately help others navigate their journeys with hope and support.
How You Can Support
As race day approaches, Roger invites friends, family, and supporters to join him in this mission. Donations to Nevus Outreach will directly impact the lives of nevus owners and their families, providing the resources and support they need to thrive.
Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines in Hopkinton, following his journey online, or contributing to his fundraising efforts, your support matters.
Let’s rally behind Roger, Raya, and the entire Nevus Outreach community as they take on the Boston Marathon and continue to spread awareness, hope, and inspiration for families affected by CMN.
