Statement

Nevus Outreach will continue to unequivocally denounce and condemn instances of racialized violence and hate – this is fundamental to our mission of AWARENESS.

Dear Family,

The recent death of George Floyd is but the latest in a long line of tragedies and injustices faced by the Black community. This and other recent events have been emotionally challenging to process. The senseless deaths of Black people, along with the history of racial injustice and brutality against Black people, are stark reminders that racism continues to function in our society and threaten the health and well-being of many members of our Nevus Family.

To our Black families, researchers, professionals, and friends around the globe – we share in your heartbreak, grief, and outrage over these killings. We stand with you in solidarity and we commit as an organization to challenge and confront racism. We commit to taking Anti-Racist actions now and in the future; so far we have committed to recruit People of Color to our Board and additionally we will have a session at our 2021 Conference entitled “Living as a Person of Color With a Nevus.”

Our mission statement reads: Awareness, Support, and Cures and our values have always included Acceptance, Inclusiveness, and No Judgement based on appearance.

Nevus Outreach will continue to unequivocally denounce and condemn instances of racialized violence and hate – this is fundamental to our mission of AWARENESS. We pledge to continue to SUPPORT every member of our Nevus Family and advocate for CURES on your behalf. And we re-commit to advancing equity and inclusion for all people who face discrimination based on skin color – this is inherent to who we are, advocating for and supporting those who are born with an outward indicator of their unique nature as human beings.

With Love,
The Nevus Outreach Board of Directors and Staff
