Great Keynote Speakers
Wednesday’s opening night speaker will be Rick Guidotti of Positive Exposure. A fashion photographer in demand throughout the world, Rick relates, “In fashion I was always frustrated because I was told who I had to photograph. I was always told who was beautiful.” He set out to redefine beauty using images of people with rare diseases. Watch Rick’s TED Talk. In 2013, Rick was commissioned to create an exhibit for Nevus Outreach, which will also be on display at the conference.
Closing the conference at Saturday’s now-famous Semi-Formal Banquet and Dance, we will hear an inspirational message from Travis Bailey, the father of Gavin who died at age one from severe complications of neurocutaneous melanocytosis (NCM). A returned soldier from Afghanistan, Travis will touch those in attendance with a stirring account of his thoughts about this major chapter in his family’s life.
Great Expert Speakers
The full schedule of talks will be made available shortly. Every Nevus Conference includes basic medical talks by world experts on dermatology, neurology, and surgery. Additionally we have a slate of clinical psychologists who have people with nevi in their own familes, bringing our particular points of view to the forefront. A number of our scientific researchers will be on hand to present what they are doing and what they have learned.
Great Meals
Dinners: Dinner is on your own Wednesday night unless you want to stock up on ICE CREAM at the Ice Cream Social that accompanies Rick’s talk. Thursday holds our now-traditional poolside pizza party which has been a highlight since we took over the hotel pool at the 1998 conference! This will be poolside at the Solana Club. Friday, being Independence Day, after the last session it will be party time and dinner on your own. Shuttles will be available to take you to nearby fireworks displays. For those less adventurous, the suites at the top of the hotel will also open for company and casual skyline-watching. Saturday’s dinner is the always-hopping Semi-Formal Dinner and Dance Party in the Solana’s Grand Ballroom.
Lunches: Lunches will be included in the registration cost for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Breakfasts: In order to control costs and waste, light breakfasts will be provided on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, to those who want them, by advance reservation during the sign-up process, for the additional fee of $10 for kids and $15 for adults, per person, per day. Note that the hotel offers an extensive breakfast menu in the restaurant.
