Nevus Outreach Support Group
Without a doubt, the thing that people affected by large nevi use the most on a daily basis at Nevus Outreach is the email-based Nevus Outreach Support Group. This group has been in existence almost as long as Nevus Outreach itself, and has grown to include more than 300 people affected by large nevi.
The Nevus Outreach Support Group is like a big round-table discussion where all the people in the group read all the emails addressed to the group - so when someone asks a question and someone else has an answer, this takes place in a wide open forum, allowing others to chime in with related questions or related experiences.
The "Support" part comes into play because this is the one place in the world where you are going to find other people who understand more about what you're going through than anywhere else. The people in this group understand what life with a large nevus is like.
Since the year 2000 when we moved this group onto its current host, there have been over 7000 posts to this round-table, all of which are accessible using searchable archiving functions. You can find the answers you need in the Nevus Outreach Support Group.
How do I join the Nevus Outreach Support Group?
Until now this incredible resource has been an accidentally well-kept secret to a lot of people. Face it, Nevus Outreach is made up of people affected by large nevi, most of whom are not web developers. In 2000 we farmed this job out to Yahoo! Groups. It made sense at the time, but we have learned from experience that the Yahoo! Groups interface is cumbersome and we get report after report from people who are frustrated trying to get into the group.
There is an alternative to using the cumbersome Yahoo! Groups interface - Nevus Outreach staff can add anyone to the group at any time. Just fill out this form and we'll add you to the group.
If you're an old hand at the Yahoo! Groups interface, feel free to sign yourself up by starting at the Yahoo! Groups home page and search for the group called NOISupport.
Note: the Yahoo! Groups interface is not for the faint-hearted. If you go there and get frustrated, come back here and fill out the form and we'll get you all taken care of. Or call us on the phone. The point is, you need to get into this group.
Didn't you used to have Forums?
Yes, we did. We don't have them anymore. We had Forums for 35 months from June 2004 through May 2007. During that time we learned that the email-based Nevus Outreach Support Group had almost 24 times as much traffic volume. This seemed like a no-brainer. If you think we should bring back the forums, we are possibly open to the suggestion if you are open to ensuring their success :)
