2016 Conference Speaker: Miguel Reyes-Mugica

Miguel Reyes-Mugica is a speaker at the 2016 Nevus Conference


Born in México City, Miguel Reyes-Múgica received his M.D. from the UNAM School of Medicine in México City, where he also carried out his pathology residency under Ruy Pérez-Tamayo, an internationally known pathologist and researcher. Dr. Reyes-Múgica completed his residency in pediatric pathology at the National Institute of Pediatrics, México City. He practiced pediatric pathology in that institution (the largest pediatric hospital in México), in collaboration with Ramón Ruíz-Maldonado, an international authority on pediatric dermatology with renowned expertise in large congenital melanocytic nevi and associated disorders.

In 1990, he became a pediatric pathology fellow at Children's Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University, in Chicago, working closely with Dr. Bruce Bauer. He established the program in pediatric pathology at the Yale University School of Medicine in 1994, and served as its Director for 14 years. In 2008, Dr. Reyes-Múgica was recruited as the Marjory K. Harmer Endowed Chair in Pediatric Pathology, Chief of Pathology and Head of Laboratories, for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

As Editor-in-Chief of Pediatric and Developmental Pathology, the journal of the Society for Pediatric Pathology and the Paediatric Pathology Society, Dr. Reyes-Múgica has a long-standing interest in neural crest disorders, where melanocytic lesions in children are at the center of his academic and research efforts. He has published over 100 articles, and lectures extensively around the world.
