Matt Luke to Speak at Conference
Retired Major League Baseball player Matt Luke has agreed to address the opening ceremony of the 2008 International Nevus Conference to be held in Dallas on July 9 - 12, 2008. Luke is an old friend of Nevus Outreach, attending his first Nevus Conference in the year 2000 in the Rocky Mountains. Born with a large nevus on his face, he rose to become a successful Major League Baseball player. During his career he played for The New York Yankees, Anaheim Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, as well as playing internationally in Korea, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the Dominican Republic.
"I look forward to coming back to a Nevus Outreach Conference," Luke said. "It feels like family. I'm glad I can make a difference in some kids' lives."
Matt Luke's story is an inspiring one that includes bullying and teasing as a boy, surgical excision and skin grafts - things many families in Nevus Outreach can relate to. Currently in his retirement from Major League Baseball, Matt lives in Southern California with his wife Tara and his children Brady (7) and Brooklyn (4). He is an active realtor, runs a baseball camp, coaches little league, soccer and basketball, inspiring both children and adults. Matt enjoys spending time with his church, his family and his friends.
