First Friday Update - November 7, 2008
The Month of October marks the first time Nevus Outreach passed $300,000 in donations in one fiscal year – and it’s only October (FY is April-March)! This means we are growing at a steady, measured pace funding projects that advance the mission and building an endowment to help sustain operations in the future. Thank you!
Conference 2008 Newsletter and Memory Video Complete
In October, the 2008 Conference newsletter went out. Plus, the conference memory videos were finished and mailed to those who ordered them. Impressions by several attendees tell what a life changing experience it was! If you have not received a copy of either the video or the newsletter and would like one, email or call .
Tissue Bank Proposal Received
This month Nevus Outreach also received an official proposal from Dr. Miguel Reyes-Mugica, Chief of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The proposal calls for creating an image and tissue repository of samples from patients with neurocutaneous melanocytosis (NCM) and giant pigmented nevi . In Dr. Reyes’ words, “The repository could have the advantage of storing images that can be made accessible for re-review and teaching, and with the increased technological sophistication, the images can be of a high resolution amenable for research purposes.” If you want more information about this project or would like to help with funding, call the office.
Endowment Challenge Update
Finally, remember our Endowment Challenge? I’m pleased to report that as of last Friday, we have crossed the half-way mark toward raising the $6000 needed to meet the Bartlesville Community Foundation’s offer of a $3000 match. An endowment is an excellent way to ensure Nevus Outreach will be there for future generations of people with big nevi. The end is in sight! Please consider designating a donation towards the endowment.
Remember, if we don’t do this, nobody else will. Why? Because you are affected by a person with a big nevus, and you GET it. Let us help you help others you know figure out how special these lives are. November is a time of thanks - thank YOU for being a part of Nevus Outreach.
