First Friday Update - May 1, 2009
Wow – so much to say. You know, we try to keep these things short!
Did You Know? Heidi and Hilary just mailed out the Spring newsletter. It has about 15 short blurbs in it that all start with “Did you know…” and I bet there’s some stuff in there you didn’t know. Lots of fun pictures too. Watch for it. Have you moved? If you have, let us know your new address.
Did you know the Nevus Outreach Legacy Society has added its second member? A youngish (30-something) supporter of Nevus Outreach just remembered to update his will to include Nevus Outreach. One day (hopefully many years from now) his gift will continue our focus on a mission of support, education and research. I don’t know about you but I know I keep putting it off. "I need to change that…."
Did you know Matt Luke has joined the Nevus Outreach Board of Directors? Bet you didn’t. We invited all our friends in the bottom half of California to a lovely dinner in California last week. Matt’s family and my family were joined by Angel Bermudez and Mike and Claudia Barba and their kids. There were four people with big nevi! Here's a picture.
Speaking of parties, a bunch of adults with nevi are meeting in Las Vegas May 14-18. Contact us to get connected up with that bunch. Also, a number of Floridians have expressed interest in getting together – contact us if you want to help make that happen.
Our biopsy pathology project is moving along – several people have sent in slides of their biopsies for an expert look by Dr. Miguel Reyes. There is not a more expert pathologist for giant nevi around. You may have met him because he's spoken at Nevus Outreach conferences since 1998. If you want Dr. Reyes to look at your biopsy, just send us your slides. He reviews them, you get the report, and digital scans of the slides and his report become a part of the scientific registry. There is no charge to you.
The next First Friday Update will have to be written in advance because I will be meeting with the 2010 conference planning team in Texas on June 5 for a three day meeting. Look for us to announce conference details sooner than ever. Remember, the 2010 conference is July 7-10, but we expect to be there from the 4th through the 11th. Come early and stay late. Mark your calendars now.
