First Friday Update - March 6, 2009

Greetings!

Wow, February was a whirlwind month for Nevus Outreach!  Where to begin?

It was months in the making: Kathy Wright has stepped down as our Director of Development, after training her successor, long-time Nevus Outreach constituent Megan Fields, an adult woman with a giant nevus many of you will know from our conferences since 2002.  Megan continues to live and work in Knoxville.  She will dovetail her part-time Nevus Outreach activities with her teaching responsibilities at the University of Tennessee.

Only 6 days ago, Cari LaGrow and Shannon Ertner, both from the Kalamazoo area, both moms of kids with big nevi, agreed to co-chair the 2010 Nevus Conference in Dallas together.  Remember the date: July 7-10, 2010.  Arrive early!  Stay later!

There is so much science news this month that we put it all on the web and you can read about it here on our web site. Highlights:

    * Our melanocyte replication inhibitor process accepted for publication
    * Vitiligo (hypopigmentation) survey being  tested
    * Expert pathology reviews now available
    * MRI project continues – 15 MRIs and counting
    * Link between Dandy-Walker and NCM being explored

When you read this, I will be at the annual meeting of the International Society of Digital Imaging of the Skin, getting completely up to date on the quest for ways to keep track of our nevi and detect changes sooner.  I'll report on that next month.

I just want to say “thank you” to everyone who bought something at Amazon recently. Our last check from Amazon-dot-com was for $170.79!  It’s easy, painless, and automatic if you go to www.nevus.org and click on the link that says “amazon.com.”  Tell everyone you know who shops at amazon to click through our site.  When you do, they give Nevus Outreach close to 4% of your purchase total.  Every bit helps.

Last but not least – did you move?  Is this email sent to the wrong place?  You can tell us to change your contact information by filling out this form.

As always, let us know how we can help you.  Feel free to contact me at any time about any of this!
