Do we have a support group in your area?

Every once-in-a-while someone asks "Do you have a support group in my area?" That's a loaded question. If you remember that there are probably no more than 600-1500 persons affected by giant nevi in the USA, and they're all over the map, you will understand that there just are not a lot of people around to have a support group with in your area unless you live in a large population center.

Short answer: we don't do local support groups.

Long answer: Nevus Outreach was run for many years by volunteers who were people affected by large nevi - they were not specialists in non-profit charities or psychological services. Before Nevus Outreach most people with a giant nevus never met another person with one. Now, thanks to the internet, it is much more likely for people with giant nevi to meet others - but still not in their home town.

What we can do is help people get together. We've been hosting conferences for people affected by large nevi every two years since 1998. Hundreds of people have gotten together as a result. Now it is common to hear stories about families getting together socially and lately even get-togethers involving 30-40 people. We can hook you up with those, for sure.

"Okay, but do you have a support group in my area?"

I guess that depends on how you look at it. One of our goals is to help all the people in our family get connected. Tell us how we can help you do that. We're listening!
