Bruce Bauer, formerly Head of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School, has recently joined NorthShore University HealthSystem in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery as Director of Pediatric Plastic Surgery. He has joined the faculty of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, as Clinical Professor of Surgery.
Dr. Bauer received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and also completed both his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery training there. He was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1980 and is both a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Sub Specialty Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He has authored or co-authored numerous papers and chapters related to his field, and most recently he has co-edited and contributed extensively to Principles and Practice of Pediatric Plastic Surgery with Drs. Michael Bentz and Ronald Zuker, published by Quality Medical Publishing in 2008, a book which is recognized as the definitive text in the field.
Dr. Bauer specializes in cleft lip and palate, craniofacial deformities, congenital and acquired ear deformities, and the reconstruction of birthmarks, both vascular and pigmented. He has a particular interest in treatment of large and giant pigmented nevi and pediatric tissue expansion for treatment of congenital and acquired deformities. He is recognized for having the largest surgical experience in the treatment of giant nevi in the world.
